CASSOPOLIS -- The man arrested Friday believed to be one of those involved in the area's recent home invasions was arraigned Monday afternoon by Judge Paul E. Deats in Cass County District Court.
Jonathon Ray Haynes, 28, of South Bend, Ind. faces eight felony counts, which include two counts of armed robbery, one count each of home invasion and carrying a felony weapon, and four additional counts of possession of a felony weapon.
Haynes was arrested at approximately 12:30 p.m on July 18, by officers of the South Bend Police Department who were acting on an arrest warrant for first-degree home invasion issued by Cass County Fourth District Court.
The June 28 home invasion on Bell Road was just one of more than a dozen similar in nature that occurred in Berrien and Cass counties in Michigan and in St. Joseph County in Indiana.
The similar incidents involved two suspects breaking into a residence, duct-taping the elderly victims, threatening them with a handgun and then taking an unspecified amount of cash.
All of the eight charges against Haynes are related to the June 28 home invasion of a couple in Milton Township.
The warrant was authorized after Cass County detectives, working in conjunction with the Niles Police Department, St. Joseph County, Ind., Police Department and the South Bend Police Department presented evidence to the Cass County Prosecutor's Office linking the suspect to the home invasion.
Haynes was arrested without incident near his home by Jefferson and Illinois streets. He remains in the Cass County Jail. His preliminary hearing will be next Monday.
Additional arrests are expected as investigation into the string of home invasions by Michiana law enforcement continues.
