Dowagiac cagers fall to Lakeshore, 74-49

STEVENSVILLE - The Dowagiac varsity basketball team slipped to 1-16 overall with a 74-49 Big 16 Conference West Division setback Friday night at the hands of Lakeshore.
Dowagiac (0-7 in the West Division) trailed 21-8 after one period of play, but outscored Lakeshore (5-2) 13-11 in the second quarter to close the gap to 32-22 at the intermission.
The Lancers (9-6 overall) ended any chance of a Dowagiac comeback in the third quarter when they outscored the Chieftains, 22-16.
Lakeshore took a 54-38 lead into the final period and then coasted home with the victory.
Isaiah Jones scored a career-high 21 points to lead all scorers Friday night.
Dowagiac also got seven points from Shawn Irvin and five points from Michael DeRose.
The Chieftains played without sophomore Chris Primley, who has a sprained ankle and junior point guard Jamere Bacon, who is out with the flu.
Lakeshore got 19 points from Shaine Teirney and 18 points from Nick DeBoer.
Dowagiac returns to action on Tuesday night when it travels to Sturgis for a Big 16 Conference non-divisional contest.
