Dowagiac Board of Education voted 4-0 Wednesday morning to place a proposal on the May 3 election ballot to restore the 18-mill, non-homestead tax for one year.
The original tax expires this year.
Members present included Sheryl File, Larry Seurynck, Jane Laing and Greg Ferrier.
The board decided to ask for a one-year levy instead of a 10-year levy, as was done in 1995.
Eighteen mills generate approximately $3.5 million in operating revenue for the district -approximately 17 percent of its total general fund.
