The Dowagiac junior varsity basketball team fell to visiting Coldwater Tuesday night in Big 16 Conference play, 47-35.
The Chieftains (4-8) trailed 10-7 after one period of play, but outscored the Cardinals 17-10 in the second quarter to take a 24-20 halftime lead.
Coldwater turned the tables on the Chieftains in the third quarter, outscoring them 10-5 to reclaim the lead at 30-29.
The Cardinals held a 17-6 scoring advantage in the final quarter to break open the close contest.
Andrew Cuthbert led Dowagiac with 16 points. Seth Crowl added eight points.
Dowagiac returns to action tonight when it hosts Battle Creek Central.
Tip-off is scheduled for approximately 5:45 p.m.
