The Brandywine girls' tennis team opened its 2009 season by winning its own indoor tournament at the Niles Athletic Club on Saturday.
The Lady Bobcats held off Schoolcraft to win the title. It was the first time that Brandywine had ever hosted an indoor tournament.
The Lady Bobcats won three out of the four flights in both singles and doubles to amass 29 points.
Schoolcraft won the other two flight championships and finished with 25 points.
Lake Michigan Catholic was third with 17 points and Constantine fourth with nine points.
Winning singles titles for Brandywine were Brittney Patterson, Aubrey Espick and Ariel Prescott.
Schoolcraft's Sina Spatschek won the No. 4 singles crown.
The Lady Bobcats' second, third and fourth doubles teams were all champions.
Lynette Earl and Lauren Leonard won at No. 2 doubles, while Ashley Light and Katie Irons were winners at No. 3 doubles. Kyla Molica and Brooke Ford teamed up to take the No. 4 doubles flight.
Schoolcraft's Lija Krievs and Kirsten Frey were the champs at first doubles.
Brandywine's Joe Ferenczi and Nichole Coshow took second at No 1 doubles.
"Brittany Patterson is one of the smallest players I have ever coached, but she is fast, feisty and a fierce competitor," Brandywine coach Joe Marazita said. "She played extremely well. Katie and Ashley just cruised and didn't lose a game in three matches.
"Kelsey Prestley overcame the flu to win her first match, but was unable to continue and we had to forfeit the next two. But overall, for our first outing, the team played well."
