City officials have been evaluating a variety of options for upgrading the wastewater treatment plant to insure its viability and capacity for the next 20 years.
City crews reconditioned the filters last year as a first step in this process.
Projects are expected to be completed over the next couple of years.
During the next several months the city will be bidding out two of these projects as part of the upgrade.
The first will be to install new chemical feeds that will allow the use of liquid chlorine rather than the current chlorine gas.
There will also be upgrades to the overall control system at that time consistent with what was recently done at the water treatment plant.
In the fall, the city hopes to bid out work on the clarifiers, which need to be reconstructed.
Total cost for both of these projects is tentatively estimated to be approximately $150,000.
