Charles Frank Day, 89, of St. Joseph Avenue, Niles, died at 1:54 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at Riveridge Manor, Niles.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, with Pastor Russell Simonson, of Forgotten Man Ministries, officiating.
Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at the funeral home.
He was born on March 22, 1919, in Benton Harbor, to Guy and Ophelia (Porter) Days.
He was a lifetime area resident, growing up in New Buffalo, moving to Buchanan and then to Niles in 1962.
He was an U.S. Army veteran and a lifetime member of the VFW.
He started the Chuck Day Music Center in Niles in February of 1962. He was very active in music and Sunday school at church.
He worked at I &M Electric, was a guitar teacher and music store owner for almost 46 years.
On March 7, 1942, in Dyersburg, Tenn. He married Bertha Louise Day, who preceded him in death on May 21, 1999.
Surviving family includes two daughters, Linda Louise Jaroch of Niles and Cheryl Charlene "Kay" Morris of Ferndale, Calif.; six grandchildren, Charles Jaroch, Anthony (Melinda) Jaroch, Jamie Bowman, Kimberly (Kit) Chambers, Lyle (Harmony) Morris and Terry Morris; 14 great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Ryan, Tonya, Amanda, Carissa, Christopher, Cody, Zachary, Kelly, Kyle, Kade, Kenton, McKayla and Trinity.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin Days and Albert Days and three sisters, Thelma McIntyre, Minnie Stick and Mildred Schroeder.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Arrangements were by Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan.
