Just as warmer temperatures have been late to arrive in southwestern Michigan, it looks like another sign of spring won't be making an appearance this April in downtown Dowagiac.
Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce announced Wednesday that its Easter Eggstravaganza celebration, which was slated for Saturday, April 3, has been canceled.
According to Vickie Phillipson, program director for the Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Development Authority, the fifth-annual event will not be held this year due to the inability of the Chamber to secure a corporate sponsor to co-host the Easter egg hunt.
The event had also included children's games at Beckwith Park, the annual Be a Bunny Costume Contest and the distribution of free coloring books to the children by the Easter bunny."
Easter Eggstravaganza is one of nine festivals and events the Chamber of Commerce holds each year, all of which are open free of charge to the public.
The organization is also the host of the three-day Fun Fest "Celebrate the Music" in July that features more than 45 hours of live entertainment, the Rod and Roll Classic Auto Show in August, the Old-Fashioned Christmas Open House Weekend in mid-November, the Candle-light Christmas Parade in December, Dowagiac Ice Time in February and is the co-sponsor of the 12-week Beckwith Park Summer Concert Series.
Phillipson said the non-profit organization also hosts the Mini Grand Prix in July and Dowagiac's Fourth of July fireworks display launched at the airport.
