Chiefs participate in quad tournament

The Dowagiac volleyball teams participated in a quad volleyball tournament Monday night.
The varsity squad traveled to South Haven, while the junior varsity traveled to Coloma.
The Chieftain freshman team hosted St. Joseph, South Haven and Buchanan.
No results were available from the varsity tournament at press time.
JV volleyball
The Dowagiac junior varsity volleyball team won two out of three matches at Coloma High School Monday evening.
The Chieftains (10-9-1) defeated South Haven, 25-22, 23-25 and 26-24. The teams played the best out of three with rally scoring to 25.
Dowagiac then defeated the host Lady Comets, 25-12 and 25-17.
St. Joseph defeated Dowagiac in the final match of the night, 21-25, 25-23 and 17-25.
Against South Haven, Jill Billingham had 11 kills and Ann O'Keefe eight. Ashley Willis led the Chieftains in assists with seven, while O'Keefe had four aces to pace the squad. Jackie Sayre finished with a team-high nine digs.
In the Coloma match, Billingham had six kills, while O'Keefe had five. Kristin Schinske led the team in assists with five. Willis led the team in aces with two. Jolynn Hawkins added a block.
Against the Lady Bears, Dowagiac got four kills each from Billingham and O'Keefe. Willis had 11 assists with O'Keefe leading the squad in aces with two. Willis also had 10 digs and Billingham also had a block.
Freshman volleyball
The Dowagiac freshman squad was swept by South Haven, St. Joseph and Buch-anan.
Dowagiac did go three games against the Lady Bucks.

New Buffalo Invitational
The Dowagiac varsity volleyball team went 3-3 in pool play at the New Buffalo Invitational on Saturday.
The junior varsity finished 0-6 in pool play.
Dowagiac's varsity was eliminated from the tournament by Kalamazoo Hackett, 21-8, while the junior varsity was eliminated by River Valley, 21-6.
River Valley, an honorable mention selection in Class C, defeated Niles 16-14 and 15-7 to win the championship.
The Chieftain varsity squad went 3-4 in pool play.
Niles was 5-2 in pool play, while River Valley went 6-1 in pool play.
Michigan Lutheran posted a 4-3 record in pool play, while Kalamazoo Hackett was 3-4, Martin was 3-4 and host New Buffalo, 0-7.
Dowagiac will host No. 4 ranked St. Joseph on Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m.
