State Rep. Matt Lori applauded a new report Nov. 2 that shows Michigan has the second-best economic record in the nation.
The Bloomberg Economic Evaluation of the States report placed Michigan’s recovery second only to North Dakota in terms of economic health, based on the criteria of tax collections, personal income, employment, home prices, mortgage foreclosures and the stock prices of public companies.
“The Legislature has worked hard to turn the economic conditions in Michigan around, and this new report is evidence that we are taking the right steps to recovery,” said Lori, R-Constantine. “What makes this even more encouraging is the fact that reforms we enacted earlier this year have not even gone into effect yet. The business climate should improve even more after January.”
Lori said lawmakers must continue to improve the economic climate to bring new jobs to Michigan.
“We don’t have the luxury of admiring the work we have already accomplished,” Lori said. “There is still much to be done to improve Michigan as a state where businesses can continue to flourish and where new job creators want to set up shop. The Legislature will continue to push for legislation that will once again make Michigan an economic powerhouse.”
