Roger L. Westphal, 80, of 19681 Marcellus Highway, Decatur, passed away Monday afternoon, Oct. 10, 2011, at Countryside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, South Haven, Mich.
He was born on March 16, 1931 in Cassopolis to Joe C. and Dorothy C. (Kimmick) Westphal. On May 22, 1954 in Cassopolis, he married Juanita G. Thoendel, who survives.
He has been a resident of Volinia Township since 1964 and engaged in farming and excavating business. He formerly was employed at Michigan Livestock Exchange in Cassopolis as assistant manager. He graduated from Cassopolis High School in 1950 and served in the United States Army for two years.
Surviving besides his wife, Juanita, are three daughters, Linda K. (Gary) Schten of Marcellus, Cheryl J. (Michael) Flynn of Traverse City, Mich. and Barbara A. Westphal of Edwardsburg; one sister, Majorie Kerr of Wapello, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13 in the Mater Funeral Home, Marcellus with Pastor John W. Hill of the Newberg Norton Bible Church officiating.
Burial will follow in Crane Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
