Niles soccer edges Battle Creek Central 1-0 on penalty kick; JV rolls to 4-1 victory

The Niles varsity soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over Battle Creek Central as it celebrated Senior Night Tuesday evening.
Elle Glueckert scored the only goal on a penalty kick after Ashley Pingel was fouled in the box.
The Vikings were playing with a different lineup than usual as coach Denise Peters made some changes. Glueckert was moved to sweeper and Rachel Jacobs, normally a defender, played in the midfield.
The Niles defense limited the Bearcats to only six shots on goal and Jeni Pedzinski had six saves for the Vikings.
Niles dropped a 6-2 decision to Kalamazoo Central Monday night.
Rachael Storm scored both goals for the Vikings with assists from Amber Peters and Pingel.
The Vikings travel to Allegan Thursday and open the Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference Tournament on Monday.
The Niles junior varsity soccer team beat Battle Creek Central 4-1 Tuesday afternoon. The visiting Bearcats scored the first goal but then the Vikings came back with four unanswered goals, all in the first half.
Danie Pulaski and Cortney Cox each scored twice for Niles.
