Seniors crowned

NILES – Two active Niles area senior citizens have been chosen the 2008 Four Flags Area Apple Festival's Senior King and Queen. The two were crowned last week, just before the queen and junior miss contests and will participate in Apple Festival activities later this month.
Ben Masek, 83, is retired from Henco Company and Delta Machining as a tool engineer. He has three children, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His hobbies include gardening and photography.
At the Niles Senior Citizens Center, he is a member of the Advisory Committee, works on fundraisers and helps wherever else he can. He is a deacon at St. John's United Church of Christ and a member of the local Masonic Lodge.
Faye Walker, 79, is retired from a long career at the phone company. She has two children, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her hobbies include gardening and knitting.
At the senior citizens center, she is an active volunteer including leading the Tai Chi class where she began as a student and stepped in to lead when the original teacher moved from the area.
She is a member of the Red Hat Tamales group and belongs to Morris Chapel United Methodist Church.
