Allen K. Roberts Sr., 75, of Niles, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 12, 2012, at his residence, following a battle with cancer.

He was born Dec. 20, 1936, to the late Ephie and Clara Belle (Draper) Roberts in Dowagiac.

He married the late Nancy Dewey, and to that union was born four children. Some years after that marriage ended, Allen married Linda Hamil, who passed away. He was also preceded in death by Sylvia Kastner.

Allen worked in the street department for the City of Niles more than 34 years. He enjoyed singing, playing his drums and guitar and listening to country music. He was proud of his service, in the Navy, to his country. He was a lifetime member of the Eagles, the American Legion and the VFW.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda, and then Sylvia; and a sister, Judy Simpson.

He is survived by four children, Allen Roberts Jr., of Mesquite, Texas, Willodean Roberts, of Niles, Cheryl Roberts, of Niles and Brian Roberts, of Niles; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Phillip (Karen) Roberts, of Ypsilanti, and Tommy “Mush” (Janet Roberts), of Dowagiac; four sisters, Maxine (Kenny) Ownby, of Dowagiac, Linda (Gene) Hedrick, of Anaheim, Calif., Bonnie Loux, of Cassopolis, and Mary (Jim) Maxwell, of Tennessee.

A memorial service will be held Monday, July 16, at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior. A luncheon will follow at the Niles Eagles Lodge.
