Elizabeth "Betty" C. Falvey, 88, longtime resident of Broadway, Niles, died at 10:10 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2008, at Riveridge Manor, Niles, following an extended illness.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Niles, by the Rev. David Otto, pastor, at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17.
Committal rites will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Niles.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with recitation of the Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
She was born in LaCrosse, Ind. to Otto C. and Joanna M. (Kolasinski) Wagner. She graduated from LaCrosse High School and in 1946 she moved from Knox, Ind. to Niles, where she lived the rest of her life.
She was a member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Niles and its Altar-Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Niles Literary Club, volunteered with the Pawating Auxiliary of Lakeland Community Hospital, Niles and was a former member of the ladies' auxiliaries of the Lions Club and the Elks Lodge in Niles.
She enjoyed playing bridge.
On Sept. 12, 1938, in Saint Martin's Catholic Church in Lacrosse, Ind., she married William J. Falvey.
He became president of the James P. Falvey Company, including the former Falvey's Store for Men in Niles.
He died on May 19, 1999.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, John W. Wagner.
Surviving family includes their children, Joan C. (David) Farr of Niles, James W. (Susan) Falvey of Grand Haven, Patricia J. (Gregory) Calhoun of South Bend, Ind. and Richard T. (Janine) Falvey of Novi; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Mason of LaCrosse, Ind. Martha Jane Riehle of North Judson, Ind. and Isabella A. Baum of Santa Maria, Calif.
Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Niles, or to any Hospice organization.
