BERRIEN SPRINGS – Effective on July 1, Berrien County Intermediate School District (BCISD) became Berrien Regional Education Service Agency (Berrien RESA).
"Over the years, the scope of our services has increased tremendously," said Superintendent Jeff Siegel, expalining why Berrien ISD is changing its name.
"Rather than just serving Berrien County, we offer educational support to groups across the region, the state and sometimes the country.
"Additionally, some residents found the terms 'intermediate school district' to be confusing. They often thought that the ISD was a middle school or a separate school district serving only the students in Berrien Springs. The name Berrien Regional Education Service Agency also reflects the name of the national ISD organization, AESA, or the Association of Educational Service Agencies," he added.
"With those ideas in mind, the ISD's Board of Education and its administration made the decision to change our name to Berrien RESA; a name which encompasses who we are and what we do. "
To help share the news of the name change, Berrien RESA will air television and radio commercials.
The television commercial was produced, filmed and edited by the Television Production students at Benton Harbor High School through one of their Career and Technical Education programs. The students worked through the school year to create the spot.
