Michigan wins in tennis, soccer

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The Michigan All-Stars cruised to its first Sports Fest championship in boys' tennis with another shut out on Thursday at Bethel College
The All-Stars blanked Indiana East 5-0 to claim the championship.
Michigan had advanced to the finals with a 4-0 win over Indiana West on Tuesday.
Winning singles matches for Michigan were Vikram Singh-Arora of St. Joseph, Eli Plangger of Lakeshore and Kerim Kaylan of St. Joseph.
The doubles winners were Michael Sendor and Henrique Niehues of St. Joseph, David Moskala and Harper Sulier of Berrien Springs and Buchanan respectively.
On Tuesday, the Michigan All-Stars blanked Indiana West, 4-0.
Michigan's Plangger defeated Nick Neidlinger 6-2, 0-6 and 6-4, while at No. 2 singles, Kaylan defeated Joe Rallo 6-0 and 6-1.
At No. 3 singles, Moskala defeated Matt Schramm 6-0 and 6-0.
In doubles competition, Sendor and Niehues defeated P.J. Gretter and Andrew Cook 6-2 and 6-0.

Michigan's Brent Shuttleworth of Edwardsburg picked up the Most Valuable Player award at Sports Fest Thursday night after lifting the All-Stars to a 3-2 victory over Indiana Metro for the boys' soccer championship.
Michigan won 4-3 in a shootout, which included Shuttleworth scoring the winning goal.
With the match tied at 3-3, the title game headed into overtime.
Following a miss by the Metro, which left the overtime tied at 3-3, Shuttleworth stepped up and delivered the winning kick.
Metro grabbed an early 1-0 lead as Brad Callahan scored off an assist from Alex Lang in the 16th minute.
Berrien Springs' Chabu Chapi tied the match at 1-1 in the 31st minute when he took a pass from Dowagiac's Josh Deuel and found the back of the net.
Metro made it 2-1 just two minutes later on a goal from Greg Swygart and an assist from Kreigh Kamman.
Michigan scored late in the second half to tie the match at 2-2 when Edwardsburg's T.J. Treat beat goalkeeper Brooks Demarias.
Metro outshot Michigan 20-16 on the night.
Shuttleworth had five saves, while Demarias finished with eight saves.
