Murder suspect found in Niles

NILES – The Berrien County Task Force has identified a Benton Township man as a suspect in a homicide Sunday, June 15, at 447 Elm in the City of Watervliet.
Deputies from the Berrien County Sheriff's Special Response Team and Officers and Detectives from Niles City Police executed a search warrant at 615 Ferry St., Niles, in an upstairs apartment, for Dustin Saffell, 29, of Benton Township.
Saffell was arrested without any incident, and will be arraigned later today.
According to Lt. Scott Richcreek of Watervliet Police Department, on Sunday at 3:37 a.m., Watervliet police responded to a report of a subject being shot at 447 Elm.
Upon arriving, officers observed that a male had been shot.
After attempts to administer first aide, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified as Scotty Lee Baggett, 34, of Watervliet.
The Berrien County Prosecutor's Office authorized a three Coount felony weapons charge on Saffell. 1) Carrying a concealed weapon, handgun on his person 2) Did possess/transport a firearm, while being a convicted Felon 3) Felony firearm, used a firearm during the commission of a felony.
