Myron C. Smith, 86, of Edwardsburg, died on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at 8:20 p.m., at his home, after an illness.
The funeral service was held on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 1:30 p.m. in the Edwardsburg Presbyterian Church, 68961 Lake St., Edwardsburg, with the Rev. Scott Scheel, pastor, officiating.
Burial followed in Edwardsburg Cemetery, with the United States Honor Guard folding the American Flag and playing Taps.
Friends called on Tuesday, at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 W. Main St., (U.S.-12) in Edwardsburg and one hour before the service on Wednesday at the church.
He was born on May 22, 1922, in Wabash, Ind., the son of Orla and Clara (Brane) Smith. He moved to the Edwardsburg area in 1957, from Elkhart, Ind.
On May 30, 1942, in Ft. Wayne, Ind., he married Cathryn R. Johnson, who died on April 12, 2005. Together, Myron and Cathryn owned the Smith Implement Co. of Edwardsburg for many years.
Surviving family include four children, Pamila and Kenny Maxwell of Edwardsburg, Melanie Smith of Edwardburg, Myron "Mike" Smith of Edwardburg and Vaughn and Rita Smith of Elkhart, Ind.; eight loving grandchildren, Scott Smith, Kim (Brett) Crouch, Stacie (Darin) Glavin, Todd (Darlene) Smith, Jason (Stacey) Tighe, Sarah Tighe, Michael Smith and Matthew Smith; 11 great-grandchildren, Nicole, Christopher, Danielle, Taylor, Erin, Kainen, Nicholas, Jarrett, Drew, Emily and Jenalee; four great-great-grandchildren, Cadance, Ryleigh, Mason and Logan; three siblings, Lauree McDaniel of Wabash, Ind., Patricia Redd of Warsaw, Ind. and Armanda (Vance) Faulkenberg of New Port Richie, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ansel Smith.
He was a hard working person who loved his family. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and watching NASCAR.
He served in the United States Army, serving in the European Theater and going more than 30 missions over Germany.
He was awarded four bronze stars and two oak leaf clusters.
