Help needed to save St. Joe’s lighthouse

LANSING – The St. Joseph lighthouse and fog signal building have been determined by the U.S. Coast Guard to no longer be of use and are in need of a willing group to preserve them in accordance with the standards of the Secretary of Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation and National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act.
Under the guidelines of the NHLPA and the Coast Guard, the lighthouse is available at no cost to an eligible group such as a non-profit, educational agency, community development organization or local agency. The group must restore and use the lighthouse for educational, recreational, cultural or historical preservation purposes.
Any group interested in acquiring the lighthouse should submit a letter of intent by July 19. Eligible parties will be sent an application and be given an opportunity to inspect the property.
Letters should include the following information:
Name of property (St. Joseph Pierhead and Inner lights)
Name of interested party
Point of contact, title, address, phone, email
Non-profit agencies must provide a copy of their state-certified articles of incorporation
