Buchanan splits at Dowagiac

DOWAGIAC – The Dowagiac varsity baseball team scored 21 runs on 22 hits in winning its own Bryan Frazier Memorial Tournament on Saturday.
The Chieftains banged out 14 hits in edging Buchanan 7-6 and then scored 12 runs in the second inning en route to a 14-4 victory over Hartford in the third game of the round robin tournament.
Buchanan defeated Hartford 6-1 in the second game of the day at Rotary Park.
Dowagiac (15-10) got two solid pitching performances from starters Troy Stover against Buchanan and Tanner Melvin against Hartford.
Jamie Simpson went 3-for-3 with a double in the opening game for the Chieftains, who also got a double and a single from Tim DeRyder.
Jake Kling, Kyle Prak and Stover all finished with two hits.
Buchanan's T.J. Pike had a pair of doubles and Mitchell Plott a triple. Tyler Knisely added a double.
