Edith Marie Shoumake, 81, of Niles died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Riveridge Manor in Niles, following a lengthy illness.
In accordance with her wishes a private service was held at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles.
She was born on March 19, 1927, in Dowagiac to the late John Clifford and Matie Alice (Miller) Perry.
She married the love of her life William "Allen" Shoumake, Sr. on Aug. 18, 1946, at a ceremony in Niles.
A homemaker most of her life, she also enjoyed writing poetry, water skiing and was an excellent cook and baker.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Allen and a sister, Ethel Skinner.
She is survived by her son William "Bill" (Linda) Shoumake, Jr. of Niles; a sister, Evelyn Dohse of Niles and several nieces and nephews.
She had a passion for animals, especially dogs.
