Opening Reception for Zygmund Jankowski: A Collection on Sunday May 4, 2-4pm. His exhibit runs from April 28 – May 31. Jankowski, a South Bend native, now resides in Gloucester, MA. He studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts, University of Notre Dame, Indiana University and St. Anselm's College in New Hampshire. His paintings have been exhibited widely throughout the nation, and we are delighted to host a small part of his work!
June 28, 5pm. Wine, Windows &Gardens Auction New this year are special t-shirts which will be available at the Center soon. More on this later! Memorial Bricks or bricks in honor of someone are available on an ongoing basis. They are placed in a permanent sidewalk in front of the Center. Ongoing Classes
American Indian Talking Stick 7-12 years old (limit 15 students). Instructor Joy Duff. 2 Wednesdays, May 14 and 21, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. $22 /$25 All materials provided. Joy will share the legend and use of the talking stick, still used today in Native American communities. The student will transform a dowel rod into a work of native art that can be used in the student’s home or given away. We'll be using furs, feathers, beads and leather.
Working From The Model Adults and Teens. Facilitators: Shirley Roti Roti and Tom Fehlner Wednesdays April 30, May 7,14,21,28. 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. $30 for 8 evenings. Nonmember: $35 for 8 evenings; or Walk-ins: $5 for each evening (pay as you go). Bring all of your own materials, drawing board and easel if portable. Clothed models of all ages, both male and female, will be provided for quick studies and prolonged poses in any medium. Open to anyone who is serious about improving their observation and drawing skills. Spend a casual, relaxing evening working with others who share your interest in art in a friendly, unstructured, non-judgmental atmosphere. Participants are encouraged to help plan each session. The only way to learn to draw is to draw, draw, draw.
Wine, Windows And Gardens Workshops Sealing Coat &Drop off Day, Friday, May 23, 11a.m. – 8 p.m. Cost: None. If you would like to paint a chair, window or garden tool to donate for our annual fund raising show and auction, and you need a place and materials to get started, come pick out your chair or window, or bring your own garden tool, and apply the provided prime coat. Then return home and use any materials to creatively decorate and paint your chair, window and/or garden tool. Come back and apply the provided final seal coat in May. Finished items can be left to dry or dropped off in plenty of time before due date of May 23. We have some glass paints available from last year. Our theme for this year is Windows, Wine and Gardens. Windows and chairs may be picked up any time we are open if you are going to do all the work at home.
Open Clay Studio Open only to students currently enrolled in a clay class. Studio Master: Daniel Florey. 6 Sundays April 13, 20, 27, May 4, 11, 18; 1 – 4 p.m. No extra cost except if you need to buy more clay The studio will be open and supervised so that students can put in extra time. You can work along side Dan who will demo and answer many of your questions.
Using Your Dreams To Enhance Your Art Adults &Teens. Instructor: Donna Chambers. Saturday, April 26, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. $20 / $22 plus $10 for the Dream Journal. Utilizing Jungian theory of dreams and the Dream Journal we will explore and analyze the meaning of our dreams. Participants will be able to analyze their dream content, finding the hidden themes and releasing their creativity. Using the analysis of one or two dreams we will explore how we can use dream content for our creative work. Please bring a work of art that your are currently creating and your own supplies to work on the piece or start a new one during the last hour. Lunch can be brown bag or local fast food.
Memory Box Volunteers Adults &Teens. Facilitator: Darlene Clevenger. Sunday, April 27, 1 – 4 p.m. Cost: None. Join a group of volunteers who meet the last Sunday of every month from 1-4 p.m., except on holiday weekends. Their purpose is to create memory boxes for The Memory Box Artist Program, Inc. which began in June of 1998 as an all volunteer effort to provide small painted boxes for families of infants that pass away in the hospital so that the families did not leave the hospital empty handed without any representation of that child's life. Families may choose to select one of these small boxes to fill with keepsakes such as hair and fingernail clippings, foot/hand prints and photos of their child.
Raku Workshop Adults &Teens (limit 10 students). Instructor Nana Maher. 2 Saturdays, May 3, create pieces, 1 – 4 p.m. May 17, firing date, 8 am- 4 pm, $ 42 / $45. 25# of clay included in cost of class; additional clay may be purchased for $15/25# which includes the cost of glazes and firing. A set of Kemper tools will be available for $16 during the first class. No outside clay, please. A change of shoes is required. During the first class students will be guided in how to handbuild in a playful, spontaneous way that can result in whimsical free form vessels and sculptures. Since Raku glazes are not food safe, form doesn’t have to follow function and your imagination is your only limit. Glazes will be applied early in day of the second class and then students will help send their pieces through the fire and smoke that creates the exciting effects unique to Raku.
Women And Art: Unlock Your "Blocks" And Celebrate Your Creativity. Adults &Teens. Instructor: Donna Chambers. Saturday, May 10, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.. $25 / $27 All materials provided. Explore your "psychology". Utilizing the Psychology of Women's Journal authored by Donna Chambers, MA Psychologist, we will explore how family, experiences and society help form our self esteem, our view of the world and affect our creativity. This series of exercises will unlock the blocks which inhibit our creativity. Bring one art object which you created: fine art, pottery, fabric and textiles, jewelry, glass, written work, in short, anything you have created by hand. There will be a hands on project during the last hour of the workshop. This workshop is strategically placed the day before Mother's Day. If you are a daughter, bring your mother. A mother, bring your daughter. Sisters ? Friends? Have a great day together sharing and creating a new you!
Introduction To Glass Bead Making. Adults &Teens (limit 10 students). Instructor: Sherrie Styx. Wednesday May 14. 12 – 2 p.m. $26 / $30. All materials provided. Introduction to Glass Bead Making using a portable torch. In this class, students will get basic instructions on how to make glass beads using stained glass and using glass Effetri rods. Please wear cotton clothing, bring tinted UV sunglasses and NO sandals.
