BATTLE CREEK — The Niles 800-meter relay team captured a Big 16 Conference championship Tuesday.

The team of Taylor Brandstatter, Paige Chaffin, Lashonda Green and Ashley Love were clocked at 1:48.08. It was the lone first place effort for the Vikings, who finished eighth.

Battle Creek Lakeview won the girls meet with 122 points. Portage Northern was second with 84 points and Gull Lake third with 59.

Kara Smith took second in the shot put with a toss of 34-5 and Miranda Baker was third in the high jump with a height of 5-1.

The Niles boys track team finished 14th with 12 points. Lakeview was the team champion with 119 points. Portage Northern was second with 90 and Battle Creek Central third with 78.

Niles did not have anyone finish in the top three.
