Earth, Michigan Arbor Day runs under way
In honor of Earth Day and Michigan Arbor Day (April 25), the Extreme Sports Program at Southwestern Michigan College is conducting walks and runs on the beautiful trail system that runs through the campus and the surrounding community.
The trail distances range from 1.4 to 6.2 miles and start from the trailhead located at the southwest corner of the Zollar Sports Center.
The premier trail is the Earth Day 10K (6.2 miles) trail that is a complete, non-repeat loop of trails that only crosses Dailey Road twice.
The trail is well marked with red tree marks and directional signs.
During the week of April 21-26, special certificates will be awarded to all participants who walk or run one of the trails.
Participants will need only to check in at the SMC Fitness Center between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday.
Maps and instructions will be available.
In special observance of Earth Day, Ron Gunn will present a clinic on sportswalking and trail running at the Zollar Sports Center at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
For more information, contact Gunn at 782-1209 or by e-mail: rgunn@swmich.edu.
