Just as children are going to be out for the summer and parents have secured time off from work to travel, gas prices have reached their highest levels ever.
An alternative to trips to different parts of the country. This might be a good time to explore what Michigan has to offer.
A visit to Greenfield Village, in Dearborn near Detroit will leave lasting memories and provide a history lesson at the same time.
Throughout the state there are resorts which are as nice as any to be found elsewhere, for a great adult getaway.
Michigan has its share of casinos and for those who like to stay active, there are golf packages.
Some resorts are even offering gas packages this summer, which include a gas card and free breakfast.
A day at the beach can make you feel like you have left all your worries away.
Don't forget you can always go camping. Michigan has many sites to visit.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources even will offer campers the opportunity to save on fuel costs by temporarily storing their camping trailer or recreational vehicle at specified state parks or recreation areas in-between their camping stays. Storage of the camping units will be free, but is limited to 15 days at a time.
Campers wishing to take advantage of this offer will need to show proof of a recent (within one week) camping stay at a Michigan state park or recreation area campgrounds. For more information about this opportunity to save on fuel costs and on state parks and recreation areas that are offering temporary storage this camping season, contact the Parks and Recreation Division office at (517) 373-9900, or visit the Web site www.michigan.gov/camperstorage.
