CASSOPOLIS – If you're looking forward to getting a tax rebate check this May, there's one thing to remember: you have to file a return to get a check.
At the Walk-in Tax Day at the Cass County Council on Aging Tuesday, March 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be people who will provide help with Form 1040-EZ for people who do not normally file.
Anyone planning to attend should bring tax documents such as statements of Social Security or veterans benefits.
Many seniors don't regularly file tax returns because Social Security and Veterans benefits are not taxed as income.
However, anyone wishing to qualify for a rebate check with the federal economic stimulus plan must file a return by April 15.
