NILES – More 100 local bowlers are expected to knock down pins and knock out breast cancer with the Niles USBC WBA at the Bowl for the Cure event on Saturday, Feb. 9.
The event will be held at Joey Armadillo's Bowling Center, located at 2732 South 11th Street in Niles at 1 p.m.
In 2007, 120 bowlers showed up to knock out breast cancer and make everyone aware of the risks of not having mammograms. The Niles USBC WBA raised over $6,000 that was sent to the Southwestern Michigan affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation to help local men and women who are under insured or have no insurance to be able to get mammograms.
This year, local bowlers are hoping to raise more than $6,000 to contribute to Bowl for the Cure, a year-round fundraising and awareness initiative organized by the United States Bowling Congress in support of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Bowlers around the United States organize tournaments, bowl-a-thons, raffles, auctions and more each year to support Bowl for the Cure. Over the last five years, Bowl for the Cure has raised almost $4 million!
Space is limited and pre-registration is guaranteed. The event will be having live auctions, silent auctions, raffles, 50/50s and three games of 9-pin no tap bowling.
Each preregistered bowler will receive a 2008 Bowl for the Cure T-Shirt.
Entry forms or more information can be obtained from Joey Armadillo's bowling center or contact Chris Marlin by e-mail at marlin505@hotmail.com or call 684-5482.
Event coordinators are also actively looking for donations and sponsorship to help curtail the cost of this event.
