CASSOPOLIS - The Edwardsburg varsity football team was coming off an emotional win against Berrien Springs last week to take over first place in the conference.
On Friday night, the Eddies took their unblemished conference record on the road against arch rival Cassopolis.
Edwardsburg's dominating running attack and defensive line shutout the host Rangers 42-0.
The Eddies opened the scoring when running back Randy York converted a fourth and third at the Ranger 36-yard line. Another York run set up a David Daniels one-yard score, but the extra point sailed wide right, and the Eddies led 6-0 early in the quarter.
On the Rangers second possession quarterback Paul Curtis' pass was intercepted by the Eddies David Daniels at the Ranger 40.
Two plays later, Eddies running back Jeff Mortimer walked in the final yard and he also converted the two-point conversion to give the Eddies a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Eddies put two more touchdowns on the scoreboard before halftime when Randy York and Scott Walker both scored to give the Eddies a 28-0 advantage at halftime.
Edwardsburg came out of the locker room with a Mortimer two-yard touchdown run followed by a Daniels' extra point to put the visitors up 35-0.
A running clock was instituted for the rest of the game.
A fumble recovery by the Eddies set up a Matt Peters six-yard TD run. Eddies led 42-0.
The Rangers forced the Eddies to punt for the first time, and they mounted their most impressive drive of the game when they started at their own 15-yard line and drove down to the Eddies 32-yard line only to turn the ball over to the Eddies on downs.
The Eddies ended the game by recovering a Ranger fumble and then took a knee to claim the road victory.
The Eddies defense held the Rangers to 82 yards on the ground, while only 87 in the air. While their offense gained 283 yards rushing and 60 passing.
The Eddies improve to 7-1 overall and 6-0 in the LAC. They will now face Bridgman at home for the conference title.
The Rangers fall to 3-5; and 2-4 in conference play. They will now travel to play River Valley.
