NILES – Winter weather could not keep people away from the Amtrak Depot Saturday evening as the Four Flags Garden Club celebrated the 16th annual Hometown Christmas with the lighting of the train station.
Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus were on hand, handing out candy canes and greeting families with smiles. Community royalty, including the Senior King Larry Griffith and Senior Queen Esther Porch, were in attendance as well as First Ward City Council member Georgia Boggs, who represented Mayor Mike McCauslin's office.
"This is a great event holiday for everyone, especially children," Karen Persa garden club member said.
Garden club members spent the week decorating the train station for the event. The inside of the station featured plenty of lights and the eye-catching 12-foot Blue Spruce Christmas tree, which was donated by Durm Farms.
Hometown Christmas board members include Co-Chairpersons Suzanne Beauchamp and Carol Shearer, President Elaine Metzger and Vice President Dawn Matthews.
