Witness shot at following robbery

NILES – A witness to an armed robbery in Niles was shot at, as he followed the suspects into Indiana.
The armed robbery occurred at the Marathon Station on the corner of Ream Road and Main Street in Niles Township, near closing time at approximately 10:45 p.m.
According to the Michigan State Police in Niles, who are conducting the investigation, two armed black males allegedly entered the store and assaulted the lone clerk. An undisclosed amount of money was taken.
The clerk, who was struck repeatedly over the head with a handgun, received minor injuries and was treated and released from Lakeland Hospital in Niles.
A third suspect was observed in a vehicle which was described dark in color, with a tan hard top, Ford Bronco, 1990's model type. The vehicle had an Indiana temporary paper plate.
A witness to the incident followed the suspect vehicle from the scene into Indiana, where one of the suspects fired shots at the witness, while he was in his vehicle.
The witness, whose name is being withheld for safety reasons, was not injured.
The incident is being investigated by Indiana Police agencies and by the Michigan State Police. Anyone who may have been a witness to these events is asked to contact the police at the Niles post.
