Kawneer building may be sold

NILES – A list of items is on the agenda for tonight's Niles City Council meeting, including a bid for the Kawneer building, located at 1105 N. Front Street.
Olympia Health Care, Inc., of Niles, is asking the board to approve a land contract agreement for the sale of the building at a price of $200,000.
According to Niles City Administrator Terry Eull, Olympia Health Care, Inc., is a home health care business, which also manages nursing homes. The company's plan is to move their offices to the first floor and lease out the other two floors.
Other items listed on the agenda include a consideration of approving the appointments of Victo Gutchenritter, William Gallagher, .J. Cole, Edward Miller and Jim Zaher to four year terms on the Utilities Department Board effective immediately and expiring Dec. 31, 2011.
Also, the board will be asked to consider approving a request from Main Street DDA to hold the fourth annual Hunter Ice Festival from Jan. 18 to Jan. 20 downtown. The DDA is also asking to approve various other requests including a scholarship amount from the city of $2,500.
A consideration of approving the appointment of Barbara Cook to the Fort St. Joseph Archeology Board effective immediately is also being requested.
The city meeting will begin at 6 p.m. tonight at the council chambers located at the Niles Fire Station.
