NILES – The 2008 budgets were approved at Monday's Niles Township Board Meeting, according to Clerk Marge Durm-Hiatt. The townships general fund totals $1,812,839 in expenditures. That's up roughly $20,000 from the $1,791,483 in 2007.
The general fund budget will require $34,197 be drawn from its fund balance to balance expenditures with revenue.
Also, it was announced that the Niles Township Fire Department's part-time secretary will lose her job, as the fire department's budget would have fell around $14,000 short.
Durm-Hiatt said until this point, the township was able to give the fire department funds to offset the money, however, with the shortfall, the township is unable to help this year.
