Buchanan volleyball team falls in semifinals

ST. JOSEPH – The Buchanan varsity volleyball team reached the semifinals of the St. Joseph tournament on Saturday before being eliminated in the semifinals by Lakeland Conference foe Coloma.
The Lady Bucks were defeated by the Lady Comets in the semifinals 20-25 and 23-25.
Coloma lost in the title match to Lakeland Conference rival Edwardsburg.
In reaching the semifinals, Buchanan was defeated by St. Joseph 18-25 and 19-25 and Watervliet 14-25 and 26-27.
In Power Pool play, the Lady Bucks defeated Benton Harbor 25-8 and 25-11 before splitting with Lake Michigan Catholic 23-25 and 25-11.
In the quarterfinals, Buchanan gained a measure of revenge by defeating the Lady Bears 25-13, 23-25 and 15-3.
Courtney Miller had a big day with 29 kills, 65 digs and two blocks. The Lady Bucks also got 22 kills and 16 blocks from Anna Callahan, while Jayme O'Bryant finished the tournament with 11 kills, 12 aces, 60 digs and two blocks.
Emily Ross had 90 assists, 30 digs, 10 kills and four blocks for Buchanan, which also got 17 kills, three blocks and 11 aces from Rachel Briggs.
Rachel Downs had 68 digs, while Taylor Henry finished with 11 kills and five blocks. Brooke Shultz contributed 45 digs and five aces to the Buchanan totals.
