Niles freshmen spikers doing well

NILES – The Niles freshmen volleyball team has competed against some powerhouse teams since opening its season on Aug. 24, but that hasn't stopped them from bringing home victories.
In its opening invitational of the 2007 season at Bridgman High School, Niles won the championship title after defeating Saugatuck. The Vikings also defeated Benton Harbor and Bridgman.
Niles met with the Tigers again on Sept. 5 and captured a 25-19, 25-14 win.
On Sept. 11, the Lady Vikes were able to play an Indiana School for the first time on the volleyball court. Mishawaka High School took the win, posting a 25-16 victory in the first game and a 15-9 in the third. Niles won the second 25-21.
On Saturday, the Vikes traveled to the Portage Northern Invitational and placed sixth overall.
Niles posted a 25-10 win over Rockford; a 25-12, 25-20 win over Battle Creek; a 25-19 win over Lakeshore; a 25-23 win over Kalamazoo Central; and a 25-16 win over Kalamazoo Hackett.
Niles is 16-19 on the season and will take on Mattawan tonight at home at 6 p.m.
