Rhode Island falls twice at ND

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Former Niles standout Mike Tanke appeared in both games for Rhode Island as the Rams dropped a pair of matches in the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament this past weekend.
The Rams were blanked by the No. 9 ranked Fighting Irish on Friday night, 3-0. Sunday morning, Rhode Island was defeated by No. 4 ranked Indiana, 3-1.
Tanke appeared in both games for the Rams, but did not get off a single shot in either contest.
Notre Dame grabbed a 1-0 lead at halftime on Friday night as Dave Honohue scored just four minutes into the match.
Justin Morrow and Kurt Martin scored in the second half for Notre Dame.
The Fighting Irish held a 15-8 advantage in shots on goal.
Chris Cahill and Andrew Quinn split keeper duties for the Fighting Irish. Cahill had four of the five saves.
Chris Pennock and Peyton Warwick split keeper duties for the Rams. Pennock had both Rhode Island saves.
Against the highly rated Hoosiers, Lukasz Tumicz stunned the crowd with a goal just five minutes into the match to give the Rams a 1-0 advantage.
Indiana would score twice in the first half to grab a 2-1 lead at haltime.
Eric Alexander scored in the 23rd minute, while Kevin Noschang scored in the 30th minute to give the Hoosiers the lead.
In the second half, Michael Roach found the back of the net in the 75th minute to complete the scoring.
Tanke did not have a shot against Indiana, which held a 16-11 advantage in that department.
Pennock played the whole 90 minutes and was credited with three saves.
Chay Cain had five saves in goal for Indiana.
