NILES – Bret Gilpin and Greg Beaver both scored two goals as Brandywine defeated visiting Cassopolis in a Lakeland Conference soccer match on Tuesday.
The Bobcats grabbed a 4-1 halftime lead and then scored three unanswered goals in the second half for a 7-1 victory.
Also scoring for the Bobcats were Jake Wieger, Will Coar and Mikel Lindzy.
Brandywine held a 19-3 advantage in shots on goal over the Rangers.
Cassopolis got its lone goal from Ryne Nickel.
Brian Exner, Jordan Johnson and Gilpin all had a save for the Bobcats in goal.
Brandon Fitzsimons had 12 saves for the Rangers.
"We came out moved the ball well and hopefully gained some confidence," Brandywine coach Jim McNamara said. "We got to play everyone and try different combinations to see what our best options are. We talked before the game about playing unselfish and getting everyone involved. With five different players scoring, I think we achieved what we wanted.
"I have a great group of young men who responded well when challenged. We will be back working hard tomorrow and continue to improve. With the youth on this team, we knew we would have ups and downs, but I think we turned a corner tonight," McNamara added.
