CASSOPOLIS – Campaign Chair Sen. Ron Jelinek will kick off the Genesis House 2007 fundraising campaign with an FBI (Funky Blues Institution) blues concert at Sam Adams Elementary School in Cassopolis on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 5 p.m. Tickets cost $20.
Goal of the campaign is to create transitional housing for men in recovery. Greg Price, president of the private non-profit Genesis Project, is also lead singer for the FBI.
His bio offers some clues as to his motivation for both enterprises.
"I was born in the 'City of the Blues' at Cook County Hospital. As a child growing up in Chicago, I was introduced to local musicians at the late- night jam sessions held around a baby grand in our living room.
"My talent is a gift from God; it was molded by my participation in the choir at the House of Prayer Church in Cassopolis. According to my mother I started playing guitar at the age of 4. I would stand on the front porch and sing and play to passersby or anyone who would stop to listen. But it wasn't until I was about 15 years old that I started playing in earnest and formed my first band called 'Q Ball.' "
"Since that time I have been in a variety of bands playing everything from country to heavy metal and everything in between. I have shared the stage with such greats as Pinetop Perkins, Artie 'Blues Boy' White, Duke Tumatoe, Southside Denny and Larry McCray.
"With the Genesis Project, I feel I'm on a mission from God. By supporting men in recovery, we are supporting their wives, especially their children, and our entire community. I'm passionate about everyone being able to enjoy life, free of the chains of addiction."
Price's passion helped recruit a 12- member board of directors and state Sen. Ron Jelinek, R-Three Oaks, as campaign chair.
