Bat man responds to criticism

Dear editor:
In response to a letter that was written to the editor, I would like the opportunity to provide the facts about my business.
Critter Catchers specialize in bat removal and mouse control in southeast Michigan. I possess a bachelor of science degree in biology, master of science degree in environmental engineering and our five-person team shares a passion for bats. I have done extensive research on the bats found in Michigan and have published the information on my website. It is a very good resource for information about bats and other wildlife that organizations occasionally cite in newsletters. Prior to reading your article, I did not know that Berrien County published information about Critter Catchers Inc.
I am thankful that the county primarily chose to utilize information from the Organization for Bat Conservation (OBC). The internet is a source of abundant misinformation, and OBC is especially relevant to Michigan because they are based in this state. Ask your kids; I bet they have attended an OBC program in school. Or, perhaps, you have witnessed their rehabilitated fruit bats on the television. I believe that this country has the room for more than one nonprofit dedicated for the conservation of bats, just as the country has more than one organization dedicated to curing diseases. More information about OBC can be found at www.batconservation.org.
Contrary to the information in the article, we are not middlemen. Due to our reputation and professionalism, we receive calls from outside our southeast Michigan service area. As a courtesy to our callers, we refer out-of-area calls to other businesses that we respect (where possible). We do not receive any fees for the referral. Since we cannot cover every geographic area, I have developed a resource that can help the public identify reputable contractors, or at least, narrow down the list. This can be found at www.crittercatchersinc.com/license/Reviews.html.
At the time of this writing, we do not service Berrien County, but we do aspire to growing the business into a wider geographic area. We have a culture that is compassionate toward wildlife and a Community Care program that gives back to the Michigan community. Our credentials and culture speak for itself. Check our website and see for yourself: www.crittercatchersinc.com.
Sincerely,
David A. Kugler, President
Critter Catchers Inc.
