CASSOPOLIS – The process continues.
After interviewing six candidates for the position of Cassopolis Village Manager back on Saturday, Aug. 11, the council will do second interviews with the top three this Saturday at the Cassopolis Municipal Building on S. Broadway beginning at 10 a.m., according to Clerk Paula Beauchamp.
The candidates were selected by the personnel committee from a field of new applicants received after new want ads were posted in area publications.
Previously a three to three vote made by the council more than three times on hiring Michael Moran III of St. Joseph. The count never changed.
The three candidates to be interviewed Sept. 1 include Gary Cary of Grandville, Thomas Gromek of Livonia and George Strand of Battle Creek.
The village has been without a village manager since Kevin Gillette resigned in September of 2006, after only a few months as the Cassopolis manager.
Gillette followed Art Sciorra, who served for six years.
The council has raised the salary from the $48,000 Gillette received to between $55,000 and $65,000.
The public is invited to the open meeting to hear the candidates.
Any action on hiring would have to be taken at another meeting of the board.
