NILES – Rain and lightning cut short the final game of pool play at the Senior League World Series in Bangor, Maine on Thursday night.
Niles was trailing Texas East 4-0 when the game was called due to the weather.
Just about the time the game started at 8 p.m., a light rain began to fall.
Just nine minutes later, the game was suspended due to lightning.
After a 40-minute delay and no signs of the weather changing, the game was called before it could become official.
Due to the fact that Texas East had already qualified for today's semifinals and Niles did not have a chance to advance, the contest will not be completed.
Texas East scored three times in the first inning and added a run in the second to take a 4-0 lead.
When the game was suspended, Niles had two runners on and appeared to be getting into a groove offensively.
The All-Stars (1-2) finished with two hits, both singles. Kevin Gross and Will Coar collected the two hits for Niles.
Texas East had four hits off of Niles pitchers Tyler Jackson and Taylor Ort.
In today's semifinals, Texas East will take on Georgia at 11:30 a.m., while Hawaii will face defending champion Venezuela at 2:30 p.m.
The championship game, which can be seen live on ESPNU, is scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m.
