NILES – Football fans that cannot make it out to area games this fall will still be able to listen to them on WNIL.
Brad Williams, general manager at WNIL, announced that the station would continue to carry games for Niles, Brandywine and Buchanan.
The station will also carry basketball games in the winter.
There will be a single live game each week with no tape delays.
"WNIL is very proud and privileged to continue to broadcast local high school sports," Williams said in a prepared statement. "Rob (Clingaman) learned the art of sports casting from one of the best … RC, his father and the Niles community is lucky to have that tradition continue."
Clingaman and Larry Pickles have been broadcasting games for WNIL for six years and the two will once again combine forces to bring the Vikings, Bobcats and Bucks to the airwaves this season.
"When Brad Williams asked me if I would want to continue doing sports on WNIL, I didn't even hesitate and said yes," Clingaman said. "I said yes because the last six years I saw how the community appreciated what we did in bringing local sports to people's living rooms, garages and their vehicles.
"I was amazed when people would come up to my father or I and talk about listening to us on a certain game. I would just look at my dad and say 'wow." I am glad to still have my partner for the last six years, Larry Pickles, up in the booth with me. We've developed a great partnership, but more importantly, we've developed a great friendship and I love him like family," Clingaman added.
Steve "Fuji" Adolph will join Clingaman and Pickles in the booth.
"A lot of people know Fuji as an avid motorcyclist who likes to do burnouts, but he asked me last year if he could join Larry and I for the Buchanan football playoff game. I was blown away, not only by his sports knowledge, but he really felt comfortable behind the mic and did a great job," Clingaman said.
WNIL will also continue with its traditional "Coaches Corner" on Saturday mornings. The show will be live from Wings Ect. The show will run from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
The station will continue to carry Michigan football as well.
