Howard Township All-Stars fall in Ohio Valley Regionals

NILES – The Howard Township 12- and 11-year-old All-Star teams were eliminated from their respective Cal Ripken Baseball Ohio Valley Regionals.
The 12-year-old All-Stars fell to Mishawaka, Ind. in their consolation game on Saturday, 17-7 in Lexington, Ky.
Howard Township took a 2-0 lead after an inning, but fell behind 3-2 in the top half of the second. Howard Township then scored a run in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 3-3.
Mishawaka scored four runs in the third, three runs in the fourth and seven runs in the fifth to break open the contest.
Howard Township scored three times in the third and a run in the fifth to account for its scoring.
Ben Getz was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs for Howard Township.
Nicholas Zimmerman singled and drove in a run. Cole Clemens was credited with a pair of RBIs.
Michael Whitfield homered and drove in six runs for Mishawaka.
10-year-olds
The 10-year-old All-Stars were eliminated by Homewood in a second game on Saturday.
Howard Township won its first consolation contest against Buffalo of Huntington, W. Va., 7-6. The All-Stars then dropped a 4-2 decision to Homewood in Vincennes, Ind.
11-year-olds
It was two and out for Howard Township in Mt. Sterling, Ky.
The All-Stars were defeated by Shelby County, Ind. on Thursday and then eliminated from the tournament by Middleton (Kentucky) on Saturday.
