ST. JOSEPH – For the second straight tournament, Buchanan came away a champion.
Buchanan went undefeated at the Eaton Park Invitational, capping off its run with an 8-4 victory over Brandywine in the 8U title game.
Against Brandywine, Buchanan made just one error and used its defense to help propel it to the championship.
Chad Adkerson turned his third double play in the bottom of the sixth to secure the victory. Earlier in the game, Justin Cowles gunned down two runners at second.
"Typically, our heavy hitting bats carry our team, but this time we were able to show off our defense," Buchanan manager J.T. Adkerson said.
Top hitters for Buchanan were Dalton Riddle, Kyle Leazenby and Michael Pretzer, who hit a two-run home run in the fifth.
Riddle and Leazenby were both named to the all-tournament team.
Winning sportsmanship awards for Buchanan were Andrew Bergum, Darren Shearer, Chad Adkerson and Pretzer.
"It's been a total team effort this all-star year and it has created memories that will last a lifetime," J.T. Adkerson said.
