CASSOPOLIS - The ninth Annual Cass County Community Policing Scholarship Golf Outing was a huge success thanks to all the support from our communities, both businesses and individuals.
The golf outing was held at Hampshire Country Club where 36 teams played18 holes of golf.
Also present were the eighth Annual Scholarship recipients:
Attending Southwestern Michigan College includes: Cassandra Bol of Marcellus; Rebecca Seager of Jones; Emily Seurynck and Brynn Ward of Dowagiac; Paul Stewart of Edwardsburg; Laurie Wright of Constantine.
Attending Grand Valley State University will be Valerie Johnson of Dowagiac.
Attending Michigan State University will be Andria Signore of Cassopolis.
Each recipient receives a $500 scholarship for tuition and/or books to be used at the designated college/university.
Each of our eight scholarship recipients were chosen based on minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better, Cass County resident, high school senior or college freshman, completed application, community service record and an essay stating their career goals.
To date, 64 Cass County students have been awarded scholarships in the amount of $500.
That's a total of $32,000!
There is also a scholarship endowment fund in the amount of $16,150 (plus SMC match) at Southwestern Michigan College, which allows additional students to receive an award toward their college tuition/books.
This fundraiser is one of the many facets of the Cass County Community Policing program.
Other initiatives include blood drives, community awareness pancake breakfasts, neighborhood watch programs, Kid Care, citizen academy, senior safety programs, CSI academy and high -visibility address signs.
Bender Electric earned first place for the corporate team division with a twelve under. Clark/Badner earned first place for the individual team division with a 10 under. West Star Auto &Body earned last place with an eight over.
Closest to the pin goes to Krista Smith, ladies division and Dennis Wimberley, men's division.
Longest drive goes to Jill Cook, ladies division and Ed Badner, men's division.
