Local teams continue to play well in tourney

NILES – Niles F.O.P. and Brandywine both picked up victories Thursday night in the Eaton Park Invitational.
Niles blanked South Haven 14-0 in Peanut League A, while Brandywine-Duval defeated Bridgman 10-5 in Peanut League B.
Brandywine also picked up a 5-4 victory over Berrien Springs in Minor League B.
Dowagiac and Brandywine were defeated in Minor League A and Little League C respectively.
Dowagiac was defeated by Coloma/Hagar-Page, 13-6. Brandywine was blanked by St. Joseph 12-0.

South Haven…0
Niles scored six runs in the first, five in the second and three in the third to end its game against South Haven via the mercy rule.
Joey Covyeau had a pair of singles and a double to lead Niles, which also got three hits from Alex Jasper.
Noah Frantz, Cody Glick and Austin Hurt all had two hits.
Brandywine…13
Bridgman…5
A six-run fifth inning lifted Brandywine to victory over Bridgman.
Scott Miller hit a three-run home run for Brandywine in the bottom of the fifth. He also had a single.
Brady Duval had a pair of singles and a double to lead Brandywine. Nicholas Bailey singled and doubled.

Berrien Springs…5
Two runs in the bottom of the sixth proved to be the difference for Berrien Springs in its victory over Brandywine.
Logan Ortiz-Leonard was 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. J.J. McIntyre singled twice and drove in a run.
St. Joseph…12
Brandywine…0
St. Joseph scored five times in the first inning en route to its victory over Brandywine.
Tommy Newton had a double for Brandywine, which also got a single from Kyle Pollard.

Niles F.O.P. grabbed an early lead, but Decatur scored five runs in the second and third innings to break open the contest.
Michael Baumgartner, Tyler Bybee and Trevor Kizer all singled for Niles to open the scoring.
Bybee and Kizer both finished with two hits.
Baumgartner was the starting pitcher with relief help from Jacob Oates.
Marty Carson had a home run for Decatur, while T.J. Stambek had a single and a double.

Niles could not mount any offense against Centreville in its loss.
Centreville pitchers struck out 12 and did not walk a batter.
Bybee was the starting pitcher with relief help from Kizer.
