Community defined by reaction to adversity

If you read the news today, you might have thought "Oh, boy!"
The past few weeks have not been kind to our community, but now is not the time to give up hope.
Now is the time to reach down deep inside your heart and soul and strive to help make Niles a better place to live.
The loss of jobs certainly will make for a long summer.
That does not mean that we cannot take pride in our city and keep pushing forward.
They say every cloud has a silver lining.
The only way to find that lining is to look for it.
It would be easy for the citizens of Niles to sit back and complain about how things are going.
But we would like to challenge those citizens to step up and make every effort to keep Niles a great place to live.
There will be no easy solutions or quick fixes for our problems.
It is going to take a lot of hard work and effort to reverse the fortunes of our community.
We know that Niles is capable of great things when it puts its mind to it.
So be part of the solution instead of part of the problem. Offer to help in any way you can.
Volunteer for a project. Help a neighbor who needs your assistance. Or at the very least, smile and say hello to your fellow townspeople when you pass them in the store, at the post office or on the street.
We can each make a difference.
It just takes an effort.
