The mission of our library is to provide our community with access and guidance to resources that inform, entertain and enrich.
In an effort to fulfill that mission, the library will spend over $126,000 for materials in the current fiscal year.
The books, audiobooks and DVDs are carefully selected to meet the needs and interests of our community and each month patrons check-out nearly 15,000 items.
Another important way that our library provides access to resources is through participation in the Michicard program.
This unique state-wide program allows Michigan citizens to check-out books in libraries throughout the state.
More than 300 libraries participate in this voluntary program.
In Cass and Berrien County the following libraries participate in this program.
Berrien Springs Community Library
Bridgman Public Library
Buchanan District Library
Benton Harbor Public Library
Cass District Library
Dowagiac District Library
Eau Claire District Library
Galien Township Library
Lake Michigan College
Lincoln Township Public Library
Maud Preston Palenske Memorial Library
New Buffalo Township Library
Southwestern Michigan College
Sodus Township Public Library
Three Oaks Township Public Library
All participating libraries allow patrons of other libraries to check out books from their library. Some libraries, including Niles, do not provide Michicard patrons access to audiovisual materials. Books must be checked out and returned to the same library.
Residents of the area served by Niles District Library may participate in Michicard by asking for a Michicard sticker at the circulation desk. There is no cost to become a Michicard patron.
