NILES – On Saturday, June 2, the Niles Noon Optimists will be holding the annual Baseball/Softball Skills Competition at FOP Park in Niles, from 9 to 11 a.m.
The Niles Noon Optimist Club is a local branch of Optimist International and has the goal of helping to foster a sense of community and promote self-confidence, good sportsmanship and physical fitness to the children of our community.
The Baseball/Softball Skills Competition will focus on base running, hitting and throwing accuracy. The event is open to all boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 12. It is not necessary for a child to play on a league team in order to participate in the skills event. Any child who wants to try is invited to come out and have fun!
Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category and age group. Each child that participates will receive an Optimist souvenir of the event. A group picture of all winners will be taken by the club.
The Niles Noon Optimists sponsors and coordinates numerous youth activities including the Optimist Soccer program, the Optimist Golf Tournament and the Optimist Baseball Skills Contest. The group is also committed to several activities a year that raise money for children in the Niles-Buchanan area community.
