Dowagiac Union Schools Supt. Mark Daniel was named a final candidate in the search for a superintendent in West Bloomfield, though he was not offered the position.
West Bloomfield School District, in a northern suburb of Detroit, began its search several months ago after Supt. JoAnn Andrees announced her retirement effectie June 30. Among the candidates considered were John Maloy, superintendent of Aspen School District in Colorado; Pamela Brown, principal in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in North Carolina; and Gerald Hill, superintendent of Glenview School’s District 34 in Illinois, who was ultimately offered the position. Interviews were conducted in West Bloomfield Friday and Saturday.
“We’ve interviewed four excellent candidates, any of whom would have served us well,” Bruce Tobin, West Bloomfield’s board president, said in an interview Tuesday with The Oakland Press in Pontiac. “Dr. Hill had, by far, the most experience as superintendent, along with consistency, stability and work in a community similar to ours.”
With his contract negotiations ongoing, Hill has accepted the offer and said he plans to serve as superintendent for West Bloomfield for at least the next decade.
Daniel was not immediately available for comment Tuesday at press time.
